    NETS and TPACK Reflection
Module 2 is called NETS and TPACK and the acronyms stand for the National Educational Technology Standards (for Teachers) and Technology, Pedagogy, and Content Knowledge. TPACK explores the overlapping themes of the three different types of knowledge that the acronym stands for. The materials used to explain this module are "Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge: A Framework for Teacher Knowledge" by Mishra and Koehler, an excerpt from "Handbook of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPCK) for Educators" by Mishra and Koehler, the video "Thinking Creatively: Teachers as Designers of Content, Technology, and Pedagogy", and the "International Society for Technology in Education" website. For this module, it was required to start a discussion on Springboard about learning experiences that included technology and those that did not. Another task was to create an activity chart that listed at least six types of technology that could be incorporated into the classroom and the reasons why they would be beneficial.

    1. Introduction
    a. Wolfram Alpha – Computational Database
    b. Not a search engine, it actually answers questions
    c. Helpful for a classroom because it helps find the information without forcing students to look through documents and verifying their validity
    d. What is Wolfram Alpha? Video http://www.wolframalpha.com/tour/what-is-wolframalpha.html
    2. Learning the site
    a. Input field – anything you want to know about
    b. Assumptions – different interpretations, narrows question
    i. Example – orange
    c. Formulas may appear if numbers are involved
    i. Example – car loan, mortgage $200,000
    d. Input information – the interpretation of your search or question
    e. Related finds – similar to subject you are searching
    f. Definition and Notes – help analyze what you are searching for
    g. Sources – know where the information came from
    h. Leave Feedback about queries
    3. Becoming a member
    a. Sign up using your UA email and a password
    b. Ability to add widgets and apps
    c. Can save images like charts and image inputs that have been edited
    d. Can set as your homepage and customize it
    e. Save queries
    f. Analyze Facebook with reports
    g. Share queries
    h. See history, favorites, and previous uploads
    4. Cool things to try
    a. Randomize an input
    b. Examples of inputs
    c. Images on main page may be history related or something interesting
    d. Upload files and pictures or data to be analyzed
    e. Extended keyboard with Greek alphabet and equation symbols
    f. Connect to other social media
    5. Conclusion
    a. Safer way for students to get reliable information without surfing the web
    b. Good way to explore students’ imaginations by allowing them to input whatever they can thing of
    c. Teachers can analyze files and pictures and edit them for class

    Wolfram Alpha.
It is important to continue learning about new technologies because eventually students will know more than teachers about the latest websites and programs. Educators need to keep their classes exciting by introducing interesting ideas and concepts. Wolfram Alpha is very useful because it is not like any other search engine, it gives answers.
I will use Wolfram Alpha in my classroom by allowing students to search for chemical elements, facts about organisms, heights of mountains, depths of oceans, etc. Students should be able to access facts without having to sort through search results for reliable sources. Wolfram Alpha provides the sources as well as many variations of the answer.

    Cool Tools Reflection
The purpose of Module 8 is to introduce new and exciting websites to the class in order to enhance the class's knowledge of technology. Keith and I did a presentation on the computational database Wolfram Alpha.

    Digital Media Reflection
Module 6 is Digital Media and it introduces how to make a storyboard, podcast, and vodcast. The materials used to help teach the module were YouTube videos called "How to Create a Digital Story Using PhotoStory", "Digital PhotoStory 3", and "Digital Storytelling as a Pedagogy". Also, a short document called "Podcasting and Vodcasting: Giving Your Students a New Voice" and the Animoto Helpdesk were available resources. In this module, we had to make a storyboard for a specific topic related to our field and create a vodcast that explained the topic with multiple pictures and videos, along with background music. To advertise the vodcast, we had to make a minute-long podcast that gives a brief summary of the lesson. The purpose of this lesson is to plan and create a lesson to distribute to the class.

    ...
In the midst of all of the excitement of moving out and being away from my parents, I started to realize that I wasn't entirely sure of what I wanted to be when I grow up. After months of debate and working some various volunteer projects, I realized what I wanted to be: an educator. In high school, my most influential teachers were my biology and chemistry teachers. Mr. Joreski and Mrs. Weethee have been and continue to be encouraging in my pursuit to help others. What I love about teaching is that I can help shape students' lives, just like my teachers did for me. A teacher spends hours a day with students, witnessing their strengths and weaknesses, showing them the ins and outs, and giving them the tools they need to explore what they are most curious about. I find pleasure in helping others and seeing them succeed as a result.
I am currently a Junior at the University of Akron and I am in my third year. With my plans to acquire two degrees, one for Secondary Education and one for Biology, I still have two and a half years to go. I work at Zee's convenience store at the university and I am the Historian for the Association of Honors Educators. In my free time, I enjoy running, watching movies, reading novels, and driving home to visit with my loving and supportive family. Akron has become a second home for me and I have enjoyed this adventure these past few years. Although I have made many sacrifices to be where I am today, I know that things are going to work out for me the way I plannned.

considered important. The purpose of this module is to combine possible resources that can be used to enhance a learning environment.
Symbaloo can be used to give students access to the teacher's toolbox of favorite websites. The websites are linked in one place and organized around a search engine. This makes learning simpler when all of the sites and articles students need are in one place. The search engine is there in order to look for extra information.
I would incorporate this into my class by making one with a wide variety of science websites such as the NASA website, USGS, and the EPA website. I would put some news websites on it so they can obtain some of the latest advances in technology and science. I would also put links to biographies of some of the most important scientists, such as Charles Darwin, Gregor Mendel, and Watson & Crick. This tool can be used to portray any facet of science, be it new discoveries, history, or modern concepts.
