Module 6 is Digital Media and it introduces how to make a storyboard, podcast, and vodcast. The materials used to help teach the module were YouTube videos called "How to Create a Digital Story Using PhotoStory", "Digital PhotoStory 3", and "Digital Storytelling as a Pedagogy". Also, a short document called "Podcasting and Vodcasting: Giving Your Students a New Voice" and the Animoto Helpdesk were available resources. In this module, we had to make a storyboard for a specific topic related to our field and create a vodcast that explained the topic with multiple pictures and videos, along with background music. To advertise the vodcast, we had to make a minute-long podcast that gives a brief summary of the lesson. The purpose of this lesson is to plan and create a lesson to distribute to the class.
It is important that teachers know how to organize their lessons onto storyboards so they can prepare an effective lesson. Vodcasts are a good platform for lessons because they can be played over and over again without losing the appeal of an interesting video. Vodcasts can also be distributed through email, on YouTube, embedded into websites, and through other social media. Podcasts are useful for advertising any lesson, be it a vodcast, audio track, Prezi, etc. Podcasts and vodcasts are useful tools for creating and presenting concepts and ideas.
In my classroom, I will make vodcasts to supplement any of the materials so students can find a general summary or the points that I found most important from the topic. To prepare students for a new section or chapter, I will make podcasts so they can come up with any questions they might have about the new material. For any group projects I assign, I will teach my students how to make vodcasts and podcasts so they can create an effective and interesting presentation. I will continue to learn about vodcasts by trying out new movie-making programs outside of Windows Movie Maker and Animoto. I will also try different programs for making storyboards in order to prepare to make a video. It is important that my students and I create intriguing presentations to convey important information to everyone.
