Prezi by Alissa Phillips

Advanced Presentations Reflection

Module 5 is Advanced Presentations and explains how to make and utilize Prezi, the online site for creating advanced presentations. The tools used to discuss Prezi are the Prezi presentation called "Thoughts on using Prezi as a teaching tool (rev)" by Marilyn Croskey, "Tutorial 1: Getting Started" from YouTube, and "How to make a great Prezi" by Ned Potter on Prezi. This module introduces Prezi as a way to keep presentations interesting without have crazy text or sound effects. Prezi is ultimately a canvas for creating a slideshow by zooming in and out and moving side to side while allowing YouTube videos to play in the canvas without opening an Internet browser.

Prezi is a great tool because it does not bore the audience nor does it become repetitive. Students should learn to use Prezi because Microsoft PowerPoint is becoming a tool of the past. PowerPoint is very monotonous and repetitive and allows the audience to become easily distracted. Prezi, on the other hand, starts as a blank canvas that can be written any which way and results in many different, unique products. Students can store their advanced presentations online and share them with other Prezi users. Just like a PowerPoint, a Prezi can be about anything. There are many different examples to look at on Prezi's website that help in portraying the difference between the two presentation tools.

I will incorporate Prezis into my class by giving lectures using them. I will encourage my students to use Prezi for any project I assign. I will also encourage them to share their Prezis in order to get feedback from people about how well the presentation is put together. It is important for students to see the power in an interesting and interactive presentation. It is also important for students to keep up with the always changing technology and stay up-to-date with any advances that pertain to the technologies they use. I will encourage my students to stay current with the times because time will not slow down for anyone.
